Summary:

After the ice carnival, Susie needs to re-establish the bounds of her relationship with Nell, and matters come to a head when Matron Wilson steps in. An eventful trip to Spartz and the ensuing row force Rafaela to take a long look at her behaviour, and Evelyn seemingly cannot escape her world of fear. On top of this, there is the small matter of the junior school thief to be considered. As the end of term approaches, will any of them be able to find a solution to their troubles?

Oh, I do love this story!  And though I'm in despair for Nell and Susie here I had to laugh at Susie's naive 'she had thought they had been so careful'....honestly, at what point was Susie ever careful *rolls eyes*

More please, when you have the chance!

Oh, poor Evelyn! And poor Susie - what a horrible creature Matron Wilson is. Looking forward to whatever excitement and adventures happen on the expedition! Thanks very much, Finn :)

Phew! Sarah to the rescue! She'll know what to do, I'm sure of it.

But Tristan does have it bad for Susie, doesn't he, bless him!

Thanks Finn - fabulous as ever :D

Author's Response:

Ye-es...not that he's noticed, yet!

“I have faith in you,” remarked Sarah rather drily, "and I certainly have faith in me. We'll pull through, see if we don't."

I do love your Sarah quite a lot! Matron Wilson's not going to know what's hit her :-) Thanks Finn!

Hmm, I wonder if any of them'll ever be allowed to go on an excursion ever again... thanks, Finn!

Of course we're still enjoying this story! But poor Susie - she really shouldn't have asked that question of Nell...and Nell might have been a bit more tactful!

As for Rafaela, I think she's a proper Chalet School girl - horrifically naughty as a kid, but likely to be a head girl before her days are out...

Author's Response:

Hmm. She is a good leader, I'll grant you, but I don't know if I'd ever trust her in the position of head girl! Still, I suppose we'll see...

That child is officially a demon! And here's hoping Susie can find herself a way out of this problem - she can't let Matron Wilson win.

haha - looking forward to Dino, Nico and Tristan in a boat! Thanks Finn!

Author's Response:

With Rufus as Montmorency the dog? *giggles* I'd not thought of it like that! Maybe a little side story there - imagine the chaos!

I am rather a little in love with Sarah...

...wibbling somewhat about Susie telling Madge, though - I want Madge to take it well, but I'm not sure she will...

...and worrying a bit about Rafaela, however, I'm sure if she were sent to Coventry (I mean the city, not the state of being ignored ;-) ) that'd teach her the error of her ways...

Eeeep! But I bet Susie got a terrible shock that they saw her coming out of Nell's room. Thanks, Finn!

Author's Response:

Oops! As you said in a comment ages ago, at what point was Susie ever careful? :)

How very interesting to see Jan and Peter - I love the texture that you've given to this world, and the beautifully interlinked network of characters - it's such a thoroughly conceived society. Thank you! - But don't leave us on these assorted cliffs for too long, please....

Author's Response:

Thanks for such a lovely review!

ha! I knew it was the cat! And what a good excuse for some cat-related punnery....Well, that's everyone's doom postponed for a bit longer - thanks, Finn!

Author's Response:

Clever jayj :D It's based on a true story about a friend of mine's cat...

Ha ha! Love Matty using his sister as a pretext to get Tristan to come and visit...it'll be good for them all to have a holiday - looking forward to whatever antics they get up to. And interesting things with Dino and Nico too - thank you!

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review! And Matty does want to see his sister, he's just keen to see other people too...

Hmm, I wonder if he did hear anything...this is a really nice little scene, but your suggestion that this is a 'gentle interlude' is making me rather anxious about what might come next...

Author's Response:

So much mistrust...thanks for the comment though!

ohh, this is fabulous! I totally feel Kathie's pain here! And her brilliant attempts to justify the present giving. And I want to know why she's jealous of Sharlie, and what the present is, and how her hotwater bottle actually gets into Nancy's room. So more, please. Soon!

Author's Response:

I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed about the present - even if Kathie does manage to give it to Nancy, she wouldn't get to open it until Christmas Day, and this drabble isn't going beyond the one evening. So you'll just have to imagine what you think would be the perfect present to give Nancy...

Ooohhh poor Kathie! I keep trying to console myself with the knowledge that this trauma will be over soon and then she and Nancy will be together forever and ever, but that's not going to happen until WMK and so I'm wibbling very much about the next parts of this...

Thank you!

Reviewer: jayj Signed

Lovely! Hoorah! And if Nancy's not allowed to open the present until Christmas day, couldn't you put a bit in WMK explaining it? Something along the lines of Nancy saying 'do you remember when you gave me x?' :-)

Thank you very much, even if you do seem determined to tease us about the present... :-)

Author's Response:

*wails* But I don't know what the present is! Kathie didn't tell me! If you have any ideas of what would be the perfect present to give Nancy (personally, I'd just giftwrap Kathie for her, but I don't think that's what Kathie's idea was here!) let me know and I'll see what I can do!

Thank you! This is just lovely. Though Kathie is, here, by turns endearing and maddening - honestly, why do women always have to overthink things to the nth degree? #eye-rolling-smiley# :-)

I hope Nancy likes her present (whatever it may be...), and I'm looking forward to seeing it all from Nancy's perspective too!

Author's Response:

Glad you liked it :) The first chapter of Nancy's version should be up sometime tomorrow - I'm finding Nancy far less stressful to write than Kathie! Not sure whether that's because Nancy is more placid in general, or whether the age difference has an effect - possibly both!

I want a campervan!

Thank you, this is very nice - I look forward to them having more adventures!

Author's Response: They are truely a necessity of life. We used to have one called Boris, after Boris the Spider. People used to come and try to peer in through the gaps in the curtains, like it's ok to do that in a campervan when you wouldn't do that at a house ! Most of the time to see the highly exciting sight of us reading books or even playing cards... but it gives you such a shock when they do it! Needless to say once Boris died our next one was fitted with blinds with no gaps ...

Thank you - this is great. And I like Nancy not being able to button up her shirt properly...however, every time you write this I end up wanting a campervan very badly indeed...

Author's Response: Good good, the more campervans in the world the better !

I do, indeed, absolutely love this. But it's also so heartbreaking! Thank you - and thank you also for writing WMK before you wrote this, so I know it's all going to turn out lovely in the end!

Author's Response:

Thanks, jayj, I'm glad you like it :) I'm hoping to update this sooner rather than later, now I've given in and let Nancy decide what we write about ;)

*volunteers for cuddling both of them*

I do love that we get this story twice, from both of their perspectives. And I'm looking forward to what happens next!

Author's Response:

Given what a mess they've managed to get themselves in with just the two of them, I don't think it's a good idea to let other people start cuddling them, it might just send the pair of them over the edge with jealousy! Wait until they get themselves sorted out before you start doling out cuddles ;)

I'll try and get the next update done a little more quickly than this one!
